I just wanted to say a huge thank you to all the people who came to the Cassette Super Markets today! If you missed it, they run each week on the Saturday from 12-5pm. At the markets there is a brilliant range of exclusive vintage finds, artisan cupcakes, hand crafted jewelry, printed tees, and a great plethora of interesting adornments.

Doesn't Where the Wild Things Are really make you want to go play in a forest? I want to travel to some far away whimsical place that feels like a dream.

I was looking at my copy of Dazed&Confused Magazine from last December, and the editorial modeled by Abby Lee was so otherworldly and beautiful.

This was a drawing I did last year, because I loved this photo shoot so much! I really wanted the little Pamela Love x Opening Ceremony horn headband....And the grown up Max suit - sooooo cute!! The photo is from my adventures on the train from London to Rochester in the winter about two years ago.. the sunsets were like bleeding orange light with icy blue skies.

Cassette week #3

Today was my third week at the Cassette Supermarkets with my crafts and handmade things. It is a wonderful place, and the atmosphere is buzzing!

If you are out and about on Saturday from 12-5 in Auckland, Cassette is the place to be. You can find heaps of amazing hand made things, cupcakes and an array of fabulous vintage finds.

This week some new products debuted at the markets - rose beaded leather headbands and necklaces, and some new animal rings. I also brought along my first series of homeware cushions - my raccoon print, woodland man, and I made a lochness monster (which was meant to be a pine tree but everyone laughed at it!) and his name was Lockky and went to one lucky young man who adopted him.

Right now the weather is rather fickle - one moment you have glorious sunshine glittering on the sea, with a crisp bite in the air, the next there is a sudden downpour that makes you want to snuggle up on the sofa with green tea and read a book.

I love going for walks when the sun is setting and the air has a winter chill. The light in the middle of winter for New Zealand is one that is very clear and the colours are harshly bright. I adore the golden hues that change the colour of everything around me.

Ways to style up your look.

Menswear + Winter 2010 + :

A look that is going to become huge this year is a tribal grunge look which hails from Scandinavia to the Scottish Highlands.

Dress in dark highland tartans worn as capes, luxe fox furs, shaggy wool, black slim trousers or slouchy leggings, undercut hair or really long wild hair, brutal jewelry that screams death and doom, like silver serpent rings, skull rings...

Black leather boots that are more like biker boots than docs.

Women + Winter 2010+

Women should look for leather jackets that are reminiscent of bikers with lapping lapels, in worn soft dark leathers like goat, or kid leather (Check out Rick Owens take, which you can buy via net-a-porter). Wild and wooly vests with merino wool skivvies worn underneath can look brilliant too, and a huge chunky scarf around your neck.

Team up your leather with sheer layers that range from jagged silk voiles, cotton voiles, and ultra light billowy tops or dresses that show off your silhouette. The look is to emphasize how slim your legs look, by hiding top heavy areas.

You could also opt for a pair of slim dark denim jeans from designers such as Ksubi or the awesome Odyn Vovk. Old ripped stove pipes are cool too if you have them.

Wear a pair of sky high dark wedges, or a pair of platform booties under black tights.

Balenciaga's famous booties as worn by Mary-Kate. I love love them!

Top off your look with cross necklaces, or some kind of dark mildly gothic piece that is long and dangling from your neck. Opt for silver or black leather which will show through your sheer under pieces.

Hope the new years for everyone was bought in with a bang! Welcome 2010!

My first post for the year is on Heavy Metal style.
Looks hailing from Scandinavian black metal bands and the Dark ages are going to be huge in the early double digits! Metal, leather, silver and black are elements that are necessary to complete this look.

What makes this style work is that it can be worn everyday - black combat boots, sheer fabrics, leather jackets, hooded capes, interesting ornamentry such as crosses, daggers, skulls and odd little animal charms (lucky rabbit foot, ancient bear claw necklaces, fox tails ..).

I hope that everyone had a great Christmas and is enjoying the beautiful summer or staying wrapped up warm and snug!

I have had a brilliant and festive Christmas - and was lucky to receive some gorgeous things from my family - one of my favourite things was the Johnny Ramli necklace - it is divine!

I also got a ksubi tee titled "lest we regret' which is made of a beautiful fine cotton, the fashion bible [100 contemporary designers] which is definitely amazing, a 32GB iphone 3GS and a V&A diary on beautiful paper.

My Vivienne + Melissa wings shoes were an early present from my parents - and could not resist wearing them out and about!

My brother and I got a ps3 which I am a wee bit excited about as I do love playing games! Brutal Legend is hilarious and ridiculously fun :D ps3 also plays blu-ray which is a bonus.

I am going to leave blogland for a little while for a holiday! The weather is too gorgeous to spend indoors this summer!

Merry Christmas!

I just wanted to wish you all a Merry Christmas, may you be with loved ones, and share lots of fabulous food!

We are having a Japanese style Christmas day lunch with Ahi Tuna, edamame bean and shitaake mushroom salad - my brother and I rather. My parents are going to have a french lunch more so - terrine, lots of salad, vintage Moet and some lovely macarons from La Cigale and Steamed English plum pudding and Pannetone.

I will be watching a few movies to get into the festive season.

Bake with my mother - it is a family tradition! We have made ginger bread men, traditional Fruit cake, Lemon/Orange biscuits.

Drink Christmas Tea first thing when I wake up - Harvey and Sons do a delightful tea called African Autumn which is divine.

I have just stumbled across something interesting!

Cat Burglar Barbie by Christian Louboutin. She comes with three pairs of Louboutin miniature heels in little boxes / shoe bags. The price is 120 pounds. I like collectable toys etc but I would take the gold Largerfeld Spongebob over Cat Burglar Barbie, or even the Chanel/ Largerfeld Bearbrick that came out 2 years ago. Nice things to sit on your shelves.

Joyeux Noel

I adore this time of year! I love the Nigella Lawson Christmas cooking shows, and I have to make a steamed pudding at least once :) She makes cooking look so stress free and exciting.

I have spent this Sunday morning baking ginger bread people, wrapping up presents and have been to visit my grandmother for her 92nd Birthday! My grandmother is an amazing woman and am lucky to have her in my life!

I also made a spiced Swedish loaf from the lovely Kikki. K, - and it is divine toasted with a little butter.

I hope that you all have a lovely Christmas/ Hannukah!

Alice in Wonderland!

I adore Alice in Wonderland.
It never gets old! I am a little curious to see what Tim Burton will do with the film - it has been in the works for a few years apparently.

I was hoping American McGee would do a remake of it, as he developed an amazing mac version of a game.

I like that this version of Alice in wonderland is a little darker and odder and has Tim Burton's stamp on it!

Asian Summer Salad

I have a beautiful vegetarian salad that is sure to raise your spirits and make you feel amazing! This is a simple recipe I made up, that you can make as a lunch, or as a side to a main.

Serves : 1
Calories: Under 250

Ingredients:
50g cucumber
40g yellow capsicum, sliced length ways
4 baby carrots (raw) roughly chopped
1 celery stalk chopped roughly
15g salted roasted peanuts

Salad dressing:
1 juiced lime
2 tsp sesame oil
1 tsp sweet chilli sauce

Toss it up a bit and enjoy!

I adore Tim Burton's dark style, and the fashion within this shoot is a-mazing!

I do love brogues - there is something charming and classical about these shoes.
They seem to compliment dapper young gentlemen 's feet just as much as a young lady's.
The brogue works on so many levels because it can be both casual and formal - but always stylish and never dull. The more worn the leather - the more charm it possesses.

These impractical looking shoes are by Nina Ricci - they are shoes that I would wear in a heartbeat.
Harper's Bazaar did a photoshoot (2009) inspired by Tim Burton, and shot by photographer Tim Walker, with one of the models wearing a lace up pair of these shoes in black velvet I believe, and they were absolutely visually amazing.

They may be slightly cumbersome to walk in, but a small sacrifice to pay for a shoe that will have you towering above everyone else!

These shoes are somewhat reminiscent of Vivienne Westwood's platform shoes during the 1990s - but Ricci's are with a twist.

I spent a lovely morning with my friend at my favourite cafe in Ponsonby, Agnes Curran.
It is a place where I leave my troubles at the door, and it is so cute that you can't help but feel joyful.

I had a darling little lamington with cream and jam, and a long black. The decor is pastel coloured, soft and white. Tea comes in vintage porcelain and there are world books and ceramics on sale.

The story of lone wolf - the story behind my autunm/ winter 2010 collection.

Lone wolf is about a youth who lives in a big dirty urban city, who grew up in the woodlands of Scandanavia and his hearts aches to go home.

He grew up around foxes, wolves and crows and he is wild at heart. While he lives in the city, his heart belongs in the forest.

My collection has been designed so that the cut of the clothes are simple, the colours are lo-hued and have been treated, the fabrics are high quality, and have been been designed for a man who wants to wear comfortable and innovative clothing.

My printed tee shirts were photographs I took whilst traveling through the U.K on the trains, taking a series of pictures during the dusk and twilight periods.

The knitted garments are knitted by hand, and took inspiration from traditional chain mail worn in Camelot's time. They are loose to the point of falling apart.
